Referring a Patient for Group Sessions

Patients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) are entitled to Medicare supported sessions for both one-to-one and group psychological therapy as part of the same plan under the Better Access initiative.

Session Entitlements

  • Up to 10 individual (one-to-one) sessions per calendar year
  • Up to 10 group therapy sessions per calendar year
  • This means a patient can access up to 20 sessions in total (10 individual + 10 group) each year

Review Requirement

  • After the first 6 sessions (individual or group), the plan must be reviewed by the GP before further sessions can be accessed
